PostHeaderIcon Cellphone lovers / enthusiasts / professionals – I need your advice!?

I want to buy a new phone (smartphone);

I had the iPod touch which was great as a music player and browser so I am familiar with the iPhone setup.

I’d buy the iPhone but it feels very delicate and i’d break it in no time, plus it has no useful bluetooth for file transfer etc, only handsfree, and it has no camera which would be useful now and then.

The Blackberry Bold looks good but the screen is tiny in comparison, but it has a camera and GPS.

what would you suggest I go for? are there any other similar good models you can recommend?

I’m not really interested in fast data connections so it must have WiFi

I really hope I get some answers because not having a decent phone is driving me nuts but I just can’t decide.

many thanks

The single product that has grown beyond any precedent in the imagination of all people of the world is the cellular phone (or mobile phone). The watch on dick Tracy’s wrist is here, in a million varieties (and so much better), with functions that would make inspector gadget turn in his sprockets. Today, cell phones have become everything else In addition to being just mobile phone units. A cell phone can simultaneously be a digital video camera (or a normal still camera), a music player, a computer palmtop (of unbelievable complexity) a wireless receiver for any man-made signal; used as a TV or to play videogames with friends around the world (amongst literally countless other uses).

Communications, the internet and cell phones are so likened by developments in technology that they are considered synonymous with each other in many overlapping ways, and therefore, the internet has evolved as the number one sales point for cell phones and cell phone related products (accessories) all over the world (even in developing and under developed countries, this phenomenon surpasses anything ever seen). Most of the time now-a-days, one hears of new developments every day. New models outdate the older ones every few months, and as the size decreases, the functionality, utility beauty and diversity of the cell phone ever increases (it is true, today’s phone is several hundred times more powerful than the personal computers of only a decades or two ago).

Those who have recently bought a phone know that the sheer number of types of mobile phones is overwhelming, to say nothing of the complexity in functionality and price comparison, buying the right cell phone may one day actually become an impossible task; more trouble than it is worth. Even today, instead of plowing through the myriad arrays of manufacturers and models, most people trust the word of mouth of a friend in making a selection.

There are two main types of cell phone sales popular all over the world. Direct cell phone retail and ‘service with phone deals’. Direct retail is as it would be for any high technology consumer electronics product. The ‘service with phone’ deals are deals where a mobile /cellular service provider (like AT&T in the Americas and O2 or Vodafone in Europe) sells the service to customers and provides a modern model of a cell phone of preference to the customer as an add-on to the service, which is either free or paid for in installments along with the bills of service; a contract is signed, and phone devices are regularly updated/ replaced with newer models in a variety of packages.

Such an online sales environment, especially for the vast majority of people who are not very tech savvy, is perfect for the implementation of live chat customer support/ sales on a cell phone retail website. A Customer service agent, trained as a cell phone salesman, can chat with visitors on a website, acting on behalf of the website as a salesperson or helper.

To generate business: A Live chat agent can proactively and amicably start a conversation by greeting visitors browsing a website for a cell phone, like any good salesperson at a store, and asking if they needed help. These agents could also be trained and authorized to; Generate a sale; Pitch products and take payments. Answer all queries relating to cell phones or mobile/ Bluetooth accessories directly (and also handle FAQs). Provide quotes or details on products or packages relating to either phones, service or both. Reduce customer services costs; by provide immediate responses to multiple customers at the same time, the time and cost expenditure for phone and e-mail services is avoided, while customers also do not have to wait or phone -inĀ  in order to get information or assistance. Outline service packages and/ or available brands and models. Provide customers feedback on the status of their order/ purchase. Suggest options according to the customer’s requirements, direct visitors to the correct product information page or even open the page in the visitor’s browser; as visitors can often be overwhelmed by the amount of information and with the variety of options available. This is similar to a sales agent handing a customer a brochure in a shop. To handle existing customers: Recording and processing return/ replacement or warranty claims. Answering queries related to packages, payments and in the case of service + Phone deals; contract information. Providing existing customers with order/ contract details, payment status and regulations relating to contracts.

How to do it

Live-Chat software and services are now available on the internet as add on services for websites. Implementing live chat services on a retail website is easy. Simply search for keywords such as ‘live support’ or ‘live chat support’ etc. Options on chat software as well as a complete support services solution (which includes chat agents) are available. In choosing a service, speak to the website’s greeter (a customer sales/ support agent who greets visitors, as discussed above) and the websites business manager and have them implement the chat service; completely customized to your business model.

LiveAdmins provide live chat sales, live chat services, live chat support and customer support services to e-commerce and business websites to increase conversion rate along with online marketing services.

PostHeaderIcon Comparison Shopping with a Cellphone

How often do you find something at a store and wonder how much cheaper you could get it online? Now you don’t have to wonder–you can call 1-888-FRU-SHOP. That’s the number for Frucall, a first-of-its-kind price-comparison shopping service currently in Beta.

How Does Frucall Work?

Frucall is pretty simple to use despite all the technology behind it:

*Call 1-888-FRU-SHOP from any phone in the US.

At the prompt, enter the product’s bar code number. That’s the number directly below the bar code. (Hint: don’t forget the first and last digits, which may be offset from the rest of the code.)

*A computerized voice confirms the product’s name and states the price, as well as shipping information.

*The whole process takes about ten seconds. There are no signups, no downloads, and funky add-on services or charges to your phone bill.

Beta Limitations

Frucall has been launched to the public in Beta mode, though it has already been tested for more than two months on an invitation-only basis. The Beta service works well, though there are still a few limitations:

During the initial Beta period, Frucall only searches Amazon. The designers, however, are planning on adding additional sites soon. They eventually expect it to become an internet-wide ecommerce price comparison service for cell phones.

Because the Beta only searches Amazon, you can’t use it for things that aren’t sold on Amazon. The Beta is most valuable when you’re out shopping for clothes, appliances, electronics, books, music, DVDs and stuff like that, but for now you cannot use it for grocery shopping.

You won’t be able to buy the product using your phone until this feature is implemented sometime in summer 2006.

First-Ever Voice-Activated Mobile Price Comparison Service

Mobile phone technologies are all the rage these days, from movies to games to weather reports to shopping. For the most part, these technologies have a dedicated core of people who tend to be very comfortable navigating all the options on the little screens and touch pads of their cell phones. Right now, mobile applications aren’t as appealing to people who are less nimble-fingered, less technologically savvy–or just less patient.

Frucall, however, might just be the first mobile application both you and your grandmother could use. The usability factor for Frucall is high since it’s all voice-activated, and, ultimately, that’s what cell phones were made for: talking, not running software.

Looking out for people who actually like mobile software, Frucall’s designers are working on a WAP (mobile application) version as well, which will be available in a couple of months.

In the meantime, Frucall’s voice-activated interface is a blessing for die-hard cheapskates: they can call the toll-free number from a payphone without even having to pay cellphone airtime.

In short, if you’re serious about saving money, you just got another tool in your toolbox.

PostHeaderIcon Comparison of cellphone service providers?

In a short time, I will be moving to the US for college. Right now im in Germany, and when i get there i would of course want to get a cellphone. But I have no idea how the service providers are like. I know that AT&T have their exclusive iphone and there’s sprint, verizon etc.

In germany the three biggest are vodafone, tmobile and O2. Vodafone seems the most popular, they have many specialized data plans, but it is seen as being the expensive one. Tmobile has their iphone and dont seem to be as “hip” as vodafone. O2 is weak in terms of appealing to customers but they offer competent data plans and quite a number of special flatrates(O2 seems to be for the “pros”who use their phone a lot). What is it like in america???
