I slept with my contacts in (I know, bad. You can scold me later.) and now I’m suffering. What can I do? ?
I accidentally left my contacts in on Thursday night (It’s Saturday now.) And my eyes have been messed up ever since. Here’s what’s been happening:
-All day Friday, my eyes were very red and I couldn’t open them all the way. I stupidly went to school anyway, and people kept asking if I was stoned because not only were my eyes bloodshot like I broke a vessel I couldn’t focus (I just looked from the screen to the keyboard and couldn’t see straight for at least five seconds. It’s disorienting.) and I had no control over my face (My eye keeps spazzing out; blinking rapidly, so those muscles going crazy are causing me to have weird facial expressions.)
-I tried putting saline in, and it burned.
-I was actually almost completely fine last night (after a 90-minute nap, and the sun had gone down by the time I went out.) I woke up today and was back to being half-blind, though.
-I’ve been ridiculously sensitive to light. At school, I had to keep my head down and facing away from windows all day, I have my computer at 20% brightness, and I’ve been lurking in dark corners as much as possible (we had a fire drill towards the end of the day on Friday and I had to put up my hood and hide behind a bush.. I’ve been wearing sunglasses all day, indoors and out, and, even with that, I walked out from fluorescent mall lights (only mildly irritating – I was able to take my sunglasses off in there) into a sunny parking lot and my brother had to guide me to my car (Don’t worry, I’m 15, I didn’t drive with spazzy vision.) because I couldn’t look up.
-It kind of feels like I have something in my eye, along with the general burning, even though I know I don’t.
What should I do? Needless to say, I haven’t tried contacts again. Should I give it another day before calling my optometrist? Will it fix itself? Should I do anything in particular to my eyes before bed tonight? Tomorrow?
You need to go straight to the optometrist right now. You only have one set of eyes, don’t wait one more day. They might be able to save your eyesight before it gets worse.
ugh. ive done this before. use eye drops that are formulated for red eyes. put them in every once in a while, it will sting a bit, but thats cuz its working. try this for like a day or so, and if they arent getting better [they should be] go to your eye doctor. but the eye drops will help a lot. it worked for me.
good luck
You tore the outer layer and it is too late to use warm salt water. Prolly need a professional as there are germs involved now. Vitamin e tablet oil on the lids when you are sleeping is good for healing. Keep everything clean.
It’s time for a visit to the optometrist!! Right away!!
Geez, that sounds pretty rough. The light-sensitivity and pain you’re describing, along with the redness, makes it sound like it could be an infection, so as much as I’d like to reassure you, you need to get over to an optometrist as soon as you can. Don’t wear your contacts, obviously; use artificial tears if you’ve got them (not contact lens solution and not Visine’s “get the red out” drops!) and wear sunglasses or keep your eyes closed as much as you need to.
Sounds like a corneal abrasion or pink eye. Either way you need a doctor. If you can’t see your doctor go to an urgent care or ER. They can give you something to make you feel better.
yeah i do that a lot, actually my sister did it yesterday. what you need to do is just take them out for a least 4hours…..to just give your eyes a break. if it still hurts then i would take them back out and leave them out for like a day, i know it is hard because you prob go to school and wearing glasses is embarrassing, but it will help. just rest your eyes, maybe try to put a wet rag on them, cold or hot doesn’t matter. i hope i helped, i do it a lot! its hard to remember! oh and you might have gotten a scratch from them, just to be sure look at your contacts (both of them) and see if they are ripped or cracked…..if so get a new pair…acually you might want to put in a new pair after you have taken the other ones ou for at least 4 hours!
